To create a truly engaging event, we live streamed the lecture from our green screen studio, but utilising extended reality. Using a mix of Unreal Engine, and Pixotope, we were able to create a virtual world for Steve to present his lecture from. We created a bespoke ‘Studio Giggle’ world that matched our branding and creativity- one of the benefits of using extended reality is that you can create any kind of world, the only limit is your imagination!
Steve, standing against the green screen walls, was then able to be keyed live during the stream and placed into the virtual world, this was fed through vMix into the Teams call, meaning that the students were seeing Steve live, but in a Giggle world, not against green!
The lecture was roughly 60 minutes long, covering topics such as the importance of virtual events in an ever changing world, narrative storytelling and when to take a risk! The lecture finished with a live Q&A. The best bit about this, was that Steve was able to see each person asking a question as he had the teams call on a playback screen out of shot. This created really authentic responses and meant that it felt like everyone really was in one room.
The students found the lecture very informative and went away discussing all the ways they could use virtual events and extended reality in the future. It was also a great R&D learning opportunity for our team who at this stage of the COVID pandemic had only produced a small handful of virtual events. After this event, we went on to produce lots and lots more virtual events and extended reality shoots.
